چکیده

High-temperature superconductivity has a significant opportunity to improve the performance of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems. The low rf losses and compact size of superconducting coils allow them to improve the signal-to-noise ratio in applications where the system noise dominates that of the sample under study. These improvements translate into new capabilities and shorter measurement times for NMR and MRI systems. In this pedagogical paper, we discuss the implementation and impact of high-Tc superconducting thin films in rf coils for NMR and MRI applications.

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...

3-D RF Coil Design Considerations for MRI

High-frequency coils are widely used in medical applications, such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) systems. A typical medical MRI includes a local radio frequency transmit/receive coil. This coil is designed for maximum energy transfer or wave transfer through magnetic resonance. Mutual inductance is a dynamic parameter that determines the energy quantity to be transferred wirelessly by ele...

Design, construction, and validation of a 1-mm triple-resonance high-temperature-superconducting probe for NMR.

We report a 600-MHz 1-mm triple-resonance high-temperature-superconducting (HTS) probe for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The probe has a real sample volume of about 7.5 microl, an active volume of 6.3 microl, and appears to have the highest mass sensitivity at any field strength. The probe is constructed with four sets of HTS coils that are tuned to 1H, 2H, 13C, and 15N, and there is...

A Multidisciplinary Approach to High Throughput Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is a non-contact, powerful structure-elucidation technique for biochemical analysis. NMR spectroscopy is used extensively in a variety of life science applications including drug discovery. However, existing NMR technology is limited in that it cannot run a large number of experiments simultaneously in one unit. Recent advances in micro-fabrication technologies ...
